Education is for everyone to achieve. The Philippine Constitution mandates that schools must provide direction for social development through values reformation and relate education closely with development.

Based on the above premise, the College of Arts and Sciences opens its door to all those who want to pursue a career and envision to become graduates who are God-centered, service-oriented and excellence-driven Augustinians who shall be catalysts for better change.

The very essence of education is to develop the individual’s potentials to become a whole person, not only their cognitive but also their affective and psychomotor aspects.

Thus, I believe that all who seek this development must be given choices and opportunities to discover their self-worth.

By giving these chances, the college plays a big part in helping individuals to know their personal life. Defining human relations underlie the whole educational process emphasizing empathy and compassion, care and love, respect and trust to both students and teachers. Students play a big role in shaping their own future. However, teachers should be perceived as role models, mentors, facilitators, friends, compassionate guides, and helpers in the educational process.

Learning is a continuous journey of inquiry, researches, discovery, and experiences, thus, the teachers are expected to accompany the students in this journey and prepare them for the challenges in life. Likewise, teachers too are learning and growing as a person.

The challenge is for us to rethink the true meaning of education. Shall we continue to dwell on the prescriptive curricula wherein capacities of learners are bounded? Or a curricula that make learning a collaborative endeavor to achieve the free formation of an individual?
