Seminar on Theology Today: Perspectives, Principles, Criteria PDF Print E-mail

Last July 6, 2013 eleven representatives from Colegio San Agustin-Biñan (together with the school President, Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Batayola, OSA) attended a whole day conference on “Theology Today: Perspectives, Principles, Criteria” at San Carlos Seminary Auditorium, Guadalupe Viejo, Makati City.

The conference aimed to discuss the document published by the International Theological Commission entitled “Theology Today: Perspectives, Principles, Criteria”. This activity was made possible through the concerted effort of the Episcopal Commission on Seminaries with the Don Bosco Center of Studies and San Carlos School of Theology.

Three distinguished speakers were invited to give talks on the three divisions of the document. The two talks in the morning were given by Rev. Fr. Francis Maloney, SDB and Rev. Fr. Jose Antonio Aureada, OP. Father Maloney tackled the topic “Theology and Listening to the Word of God”. The biblical scholar focused his sharing and reiterated the importance of the Sacred Scriptures in doing theology. Father Aureada’s talk was on “Theology and Giving an Account of the Truth”. The Dominican priest systematically presented and highlighted the threefold essential components of a Christian’s life. The mind, heart and hands correspond to the doctrines, devotion and praxis (doing). In the afternoon, the assembly was graced with the presence of His Eminence, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, DD, who shared on “Theology and Abiding in Communion with the Church”. The Cardinal elaborated the six levels of communion in the Church mentioned in the document. He cited relevant examples besetting the whole Church at large and our local Church in the Philippines.

In Toto, the whole day conference was a success. Almost 700 participants (diocesan, religious and lay) affiliated to different Catholic institutions like formation houses, schools, and parishes in the country participated in the conference. The activity began at 8:30 in the morning and ended at 5 in the afternoon.
